Introduction to Digital Technology is the foundation course (course 1) in the Web and Digital Design Pathway. The goal of this course is to provide all students with an introduction to the principles of computer science and its place in the modern world. This course should also help students use computers effectively in their lives, thus providing a foundation for successfully integrating their own interests and careers with the resources of a technological society. In this course, high school students can acquire a fundamental understanding of the operation of computers and computer networks and create useful program implementing simple algorithms. By developing web pages that include images, sound, and text, they can acquire a working understanding of the internet, common formats for data transmission, and some insights into the design of the human-computer interface. Exposure to career possibilities and discussion of ethical issues relating to computers should also be important threads in this course.
Digital Design is the 2nd course in the Web and Digital Design Pathway. In this course, students will create and learn digital media
applications using elements of text, graphics, animation, sound, video and
digital imaging for various format. The digital media and interactive media
projects developed and published showcase the student skills and ability.
Emphasis will be placed on effective use of tools for interactive multimedia
production including storyboarding, visual development, project management,
digital citizenship, and web processes. Students will create and design web
sites that incorporate digital media elements to enhance content of web site.
Competencies in the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of both the core employability skills standards and the technical skill standards.
Web Design is the 3rd course in the Web and Digital Design Pathway, After mastery of the standards in this course, students should be prepared to take the end of pathway assessment in this career area. This course will equip students with the ability to plan, design and create a web site. Students will move past learning how to write code and progress to designing a professional looking web site using graphical authoring tools that contains multimedia elements. Students will work individually and in teams to create web site layouts and use graphical elements to create a professional looking web site.
The objective of this program is to provide students with a credit recovery opportunity for the purpose of meeting the requirements for graduation. Odysseyware (OW) is the name of the online software that was chosen to deliver the curriculum for this intervention program. OW is a web-based learning resource where you can earn course credits while learning independently in an online classroom.
